THE MAISON DES VINS, WHERE TASTE EXPRESSES ITSELF
Taste in Dining
Wine is better imagined not as a lone entity but as a harmonious accompaniment to a gourmet meal. The vocation of the Maison des Vins Coteaux Varois en Provence is to provide an overall presentation of the various wines produced in the Appellation, as well as the speciality products of the Var region. During special events, the Maison des Vins opens the door to the delights of Provençal gastronomy. Truffles, game, wild trout and Provençal vegetables all play a role in the dining feast, accompanied by Coteaux Varois en Provence wines.
Taste in Esthetics
The Maison des Vins Coteaux Varois en Provence hosts exhibitions of paintings, sculpture and photographs depicting various themes relating to the Appellation, the historic and architectural wealth of the Villages, in addition to wine-making, gastronomy and much more.
Taste in Music
Provence in summer is transformed into a land of festivals and music. The La Celle Abbey, with all its cultural and historical wealth, is the ideal spot for concerts. The Maison des Vins Coteaux Varois en Provence hosts chamber music orchestras and solo musicians at celebrated musical events held at the Royal Abbey of La Celle.

In the Abbey vineyards, a vine conservatory
Eighty-eight varieties of vines, major contributors to the history of wine-producing in Provence, are cultivated here and displayed in formal gardens. Amateur wine lovers will enjoy learning how to distinguish grapes and to recognise their characteristics and qualities. Professionals appreciate having this precious “reserve” where rare varieties are maintained and preserved.
On the grounds, model vineyards and observatory
The vineyard is laid out in the traditional manner over two hectares of land divided into several plots: one is used as the vineyard observatory and the other two as model vineyards. This allows wine lovers to discover a full scale vineyard and to learn how the grower plies his trade, about how the vine is grown and about harvesting techniques. The model vineyard represents a precious “tool” for professionals in growing methods (practice in short pruning techniques, yield reducing operations,...) and vinification research.

COTEAUX VAROIS EN PROVENCE, A LAND OF INFINITE NUANCE
The wine-producing region authorised to avail itself of the coveted “Coteaux Varois en Provence” appellation is the natural area which could be called “chalky Provence”. The area is characterised by its hilly geographical relief with altitudes ranging from 600 m to over 1,000 m across the Ste-Baume mountain range. This wine-producing region made up of a stretch of clay and limestone rich soils and averaging an altitude of 350 m enjoys a Piedmont-type climate (cold in winter, hot and dry in summer). 100,000 hl of wine are produced on 2,200 hectares of land, exclusively confined to 28 wine-producing villages surrounding Brignoles, the principal town within the appellation and onetime summer residence of the Counts of Provence. |
THE SOUL OF COTEAUX VAROIS EN PROVENCE : A MELODY OF RENOWNED GRAPE VARIETIES
The wines of Coteaux Varois en Provence are produced using renowned varieties of grapes, especially adapted to the soils of this Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée zone. While naturally deferring to the originality and aromatic heartiness of each and every one of them, the vintner’s art consists in blending the various yields of meticulously selected parcels of land. |
